Girls Basketball
Sometimes in sports the final score in not indicative of how much effort the players gave. The Randolph Blue Devils girls basketball team’s 79-47 loss to North Quincy was an example of that.
They fought extremely hard from start to finish on Friday night. What made their effort even more impressive was that they were playing with half as many players as North Quincy. The Blue Devils also played with senior captain Tina Mata on the bench with an injury for most of the game. It was very impressive to see all of the players giving the team everything that they had, even when the victory seemed to be out of reach.
Some bright spots in the game were the play of senior Ashley Pires and Anna Mbengam. Pires was the leading scorer for the Blue Devils with seventeen points along with nine rebounds, falling one rebound shy of a double-double. Mbengam played great defense all game long. She altered lots of opposing shots and scored seven points with ten rebounds. Another bright spot in the game was the ball handling of senior point guard Michelle Leung. She handled the tight, full-court press all game long without giving up a single turnover.
The Blue Devils definitely have some strong players and if they continue to play with the effort they showed on Friday, wins will be in their future for sure.
